The big Idea Our goal for this project was to create a bold, permanent identity for a site where traditional plants struggle to survive. We use the ground as a massive canvas, layering different colored stones to create a landscape that looks great from the street and even better as a giant piece of geometric art from the windows above. How We Did it Painting with stone: We turned the facility’s surroundings into a large-scale piece of geometric art by layering contrasting bands of limestone, volcanic rock, and river stone. Living Sculptures: Instead of traditional gardening, we practiced minimalist staging. We placed single, hardy plants-like small palms and cacti-inside the stone beds. They are not meant to fill the space; they are there to look like pieces of art set against a textured background. Smart & Sustainable: Best of all, this design requires zero irrigation. It creates a clean, industrial-modern look that handles the harsh desert weather effortlessly. The biggest achievement of this project is the longevity. Because it is 100% hardscape, there is no wilting, no fading, and no water waste. The design will look just as perfect and harp ten years from now as it does today.
